Advocate Characteristics

A pro-life client advocate is a compassionate, mission-driven individual who combines advocacy, emotional support, and practical resource guidance to empower women in unplanned pregnancies—always with the goal of affirming the life and dignity of both parent and child.
1. Mission-Driven Commitment
• Pro-Life Values: Deep belief in the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.
• Alignment with Organizational Mission: Willingness to represent and uphold the mission and values of Inspira Resource Center.
• Service-Oriented: Passionate about helping clients make life-affirming choices in a supportive environment.
2. Strong Interpersonal & Emotional Intelligence Skills
• Empathy & Compassion: Ability to listen without judgment, provide emotional support, and be sensitive to trauma or distress.
• Cultural Humility: Awareness of different backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences—especially in vulnerable populations.
• Communication Skills: Able to clearly and gently share information, options, and guidance.
3. Advocacy & Support Competence
• Client-Centered Approach: Prioritizes the client’s dignity and needs, providing non-coercive, respectful care.
• Understand the Importance of the Follow-Up: Ensures continuity of care—tracking appointments, documentation.
4. Confidentiality & Ethics
• Trustworthiness: Maintains strict confidentiality regarding client information.
• Ethical Boundaries: Understands scope of practice—avoids offering medical or legal advice unless trained/licensed.
5. Spiritual Sensitivity
• Faith Integration: Comfortable praying with clients, sharing biblical encouragement (when invited and appropriate).
• Non-judgmental Witness: Represents faith in action—through love, service, and grace, not coercion.
6. Willingness to Commit to Ongoing Training
• Attend Basic Peer Advocacy Training: Will receive training through the center.
• Willingness to Be Trained in Trauma-Informed Care: Knowledge of how past trauma (e.g., abuse, past abortions) may influence a client’s choices.
7. Resilience & Boundaries
• Emotionally Grounded: Able to hear difficult stories without becoming overwhelmed.
• Self-Care Practices: Knows how to avoid burnout and compassion fatigue.
• Clear Boundaries: Professionalism in relationships, even when providing deep emotional support.
